"Probably the biggest insight...is that happiness is not just a place but also a process. Happiness is an ongoing process of fresh challenges, and...it takes the right attitudes and activities to continue to be happy."

ALL ABOUT THERAPY

According to the American Psychological Association, “Psychologists help people of all ages live happier, healthier and more productive lives.” Through the use of various psychotherapy methods and collaborative treatment measures, patients are able to develop life-changing habits to help them cope with many of life’s various obstacles. I practice from an eclectic approach but my main mode of therapy is that of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). CBT can be described as a form of psychotherapy that treats problems and boosts happiness by modifying dysfunctional emotions, behaviours, and thoughts.

INDIVIDUAL PSYCHOTHERAPY

There are many reasons one would seek therapy, whether it be challenging life circumstances or for personal growth, therapy can assist you in a number of ways to improve your quality of life. Through individual psychotherapy, psychologists are able to help people of all ages live happier, healthier and more productive lives. During our sessions we will work together to achieve a better self-understanding and hereby encourage you to adopt new attitudes and feelings towards life situations. It is essential to keep in mind that therapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix but rather that therapy is a healing process that necessitates participation and investment from the patient and caretaker alike. However, in the end, making small changes in self-defeating behaviour and in feelings of sadness, fear, and pain can bring life-altering results.

SCHOLASTIC ASSESSMENT

Here For You

Scholastic assessments are often recommended for children or adolescents who are experiencing academic difficulties at school. Scholastic assessments provide a differential picture of the child or adolescent’s strengths and weaknesses, which include their learning ability, general knowledge, judgement, concentration, spatial perception, basic perceptual and concept-forming abilities, visual motor skills etc. The profile obtained from the assessment can be used for counselling and as a clinical or diagnostic aid. I completed my masters research within the field of child development and really enjoy working with children. I can also assist with the application process for a special education needs school should the need arise.

PLAY THERAPY

“To play it out is the most natural self-healing process in childhood.”
~Erik Erickson~

Play therapy is a form of counselling or psychotherapy in which play is used as a means of helping children express or communicate their feelings. It is often said that toys are a child's words and play is his/her conversation, which sums up the essence of play therapy. Children are often unable to verbalise their feelings like adults, therefore play is the perfect medium by which they can express themselves. Play therapy therefore uses specifically chosen toys and games that help children express their feelings, process their emotions and develop their coping skills to deal with what is bothering them and/or the underlying clinical disorder.

COUPLES THERAPY

"Never let a problem to be solved become more important than a person to be loved."
~Barbara Johnson~

Couples therapy is a type of psychotherapy which helps couples of all types recognize and resolve conflicts and improve their relationships. The purpose of couples therapy is to restore a better level of functioning in couples who experience relationship distress. The reasons for distress can include poor communication skills, incompatibility, or a broad spectrum of psychological disorders that include domestic violence, alcoholism, depression and anxiety. Through couples therapy, you can make thoughtful decisions about rebuilding your relationship and improving communication. In our therapy sessions, we’ll work to solve current problems and change unhelpful thinking and behaviour.
